Every movement requires a solid foundation of principles to ensure future growth consistent with the desired mission. So, what defines the foundation of “God-Empowered Disciples Making Disciples?” In Luke’s account of the Gospel, the physician records Jesus teaching:
Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock.
God’s absolute truth, contained in scripture, provides the rock for the foundation of “[making] disciples of all nations.” Therefore, let us dig deep, and construct the foundation of discipleship upon the rock of scripture through God empowering us:
With the knowledge of His will [contained in scripture] in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.
Without Christ and His words, discipleship is impossible. 2 Corinthians 3:5-6 states:
…our sufficiency is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant…
In light of this passage, begin to pray for humility and a greater dependence on God to deny ourselves, and trust in His sovereign provision to create — through us — disciples of Christ.
